While the influence of the Programme
on poverty will take time to establish visible impacts, the following can be quoted
as some of the milestones crossed in the short period of nine years:
PRSP has introduced a habit of saving in rural men and women. From June 1998 to
June 2007, communities have
|
 |
saved a total of Rs. 77.37 million which are deposited in their Bank accounts, used for internal lending and emergent needs. The average saving per Community Organization
(CO) member is Rs. 5,223. Of the 338,954 rural men and women who are members of PRSP-fostered
COs, 225,169 have so far benefited by availing more than Rs. 3447.94
million as credit.
The only security required from them
is the social collateral.
The overall recovery rate of credit
disbursed by PRSP is 97.59% which is the irrefutable evidence of credit-worthiness of the
poor as also the appropriateness of purposes for which credit is disbursed.
PRSP has disbursed Rs. 952.64 million as credit for the establishment or expansion
of micro-enterprises to 81,695 beneficiaries.
